## About Oregon Department of Forestry timber sale prices

The Oregon Department of Forestry sells state-forest timber through district offices, and each district runs its own auctions and posts its own results. This page gathers every ODF district this site tracks into one table so the Oregon program can be read at the agency level, then hands off to each district's own page for the sale-by-sale record. Volumes are in thousand board feet (MBF), the state unit, and are never blended with the federal CCF sales elsewhere on this site.

Two columns you would expect are deliberately absent. There is no premium over the appraised minimum, because ODF's published results report the winning bid and not the minimum the sale was advertised at, so the figure cannot be computed for a single Oregon sale, let alone averaged. Bidder count is the competitive read Oregon does publish, on every sold sale, so that is the column here instead. And there is no month-over-month delta table, because an agency total that ranked beside its own districts would be counting the same sales twice. How an appraised minimum is set in the first place, in Oregon and at the other agencies, is covered in [how stumpage is appraised](/guides/how-stumpage-is-appraised).

A district is listed once it has closed a sale that publishes a single comparable green sawtimber rate. An award that spans several species groups, or one scaled rather than sold on a lump-sum rate, reports a whole-sale winning total with no derivable dollars per MBF, and this site refuses to guess one. 1 further district has sold timber on the tracked record without publishing such a rate, so it does not appear above. A district whose newest comparable rate has fallen outside the last 12 months is labelled "not recently priced" in its latest-result cell: sales are still closing there, what has paused is the publication of a single rate. Oregon sales that have been noticed but not yet auctioned sit on the [upcoming timber auctions calendar](/calendar/upcoming), and every agency's results rank together on [the public timber board](/board/recent-results). ## Common questions

### What are timber prices in Oregon right now?

Oregon Department of Forestry sales have run a volume-weighted $594/MBF for green sawtimber across the tracked record, with a median of $602/MBF. That is the state-forest auction market. The table above breaks it out by district, and each district page carries its sales one by one.

### Is this the same as log prices in Oregon?

No, and the difference is large. These are stumpage prices: what a buyer paid for standing timber at a state auction, before it is cut, yarded or hauled. A log price is what a mill pays for logs delivered to its gate, which includes all of that work. [What is stumpage](/guides/what-is-stumpage) explains where the two sit relative to each other.

### Does this cover federal timber sales in Oregon?

No. This page is the Oregon Department of Forestry's state-forest program. Federal sales run on their own programs and units, and this site never blends the state's MBF volumes with federal CCF sales. [The public timber board](/board/recent-results) ranks every agency's results together.
